About the Book

DescriptionThe universe is infinite and it has no beginning, end or edges. We can see upto the sky only and beyond the limit of our eye-sight, lies the unseen part of the universe with crores and crores of heavenly bodies. The seen is the domain of the material science or modern science and it becomes helpless before the questions about the unseen and its effects in the affairs of man. Just like the influences of the seen and unseen rays of the Sun and the Moon, the seen and unseen rays of the heavenly bodies which lie beyond the limits of our observation may also have influences on the earth and its living beings. Astrology attempts to surpass this limitation, in its own mysterious ways. But it now appears to be having many shortages, as the modern astrologers cannot give satisfactory explanations about many of the conclusions in astrology which were formulated during the course of thousands of years. The replies like 'these are the secrets revealed to Parasara by God Himself ', or 'these are the truths found out by the Rishis by their intution' etc., cannot satisfy an enquiring mind. However, eventhough some of the basic principles which guide the predictive side of astrology cannot be explained, practical studies reveal that there is some truth in astrology and hence the classification as an occult science, dealing with the influence of the cosmic rays in the affairs of man, cannot be challenged with evidence. Anyhow, astrology appears to be a systematic study of discipline as any other utility-oriented stream of sciences like medicine, psychology, meteorology etc. Besides, perhaps, it is the most difficult of all the sciences, as it requires the precision of mathematics blended with the intution of a philosopher. The astrological intution, for making accurate predictions, can be developed only through reasonable thinking, experimental studies in the field of applied astrology, intelligent analysis of each case etc. which means that it is a scientific development of the faculty of perception by practice and it starts from where an ordinary student stops, exhausting all his resourses. Some celebrated scholars in astrology claim that most of the well-known scientists are convinced of merits of astrology but hesitate to proclaim it openly and acknowledge the truth (that astrology can be helpful in modern scientific investigations) due to various reasons. It appears that the modern scientific investigations can be amended and rectified by astrology. Take for example the case of Meteorology. Even with all the instruments and resources at its disposal, its weather-forecasts have become often a matter of public laughter. Same is the case of earthquakes. Likewise, it is claimed that medical astrology can play an important role in the field of diagnosis and treatment of health problems. In our country astrology was giving valuable services to mankind in this regard for centuries. Even today, some Ayurveda doctors depend on astrology for diagnosis in difficult cases, for starting treatment and for giving medicines to chronic patients etc.. In some families of hereditary Ayurveda Vydias, astrology is also taught as a part of Ayurveda. The Vydias who practice visha-chikilsa (snake-bite etc.) depend on Nimitta Sastra of astrology. As such there seems to be no harm if the modern science lends its ears to hear what the astrology can do in such cases and astrologers take up the challenge and prove that astrology succeeds even in the cases where the modern sciences fail.
