About the Book

This book is based on a true story. This is the story of how Mary Palmer, an uneducated ordinary housewife made over 1,000 per cent profits on the London Stock Exchange. Husband dies with no insurance. No income and 3 kids to support. She believed her house was bought and finds out it was only rented with 3 months rent arrears. 4 unknown to her, lovers of her dead husband turn up at the funeral while her household goods are being re-possessed. While setting fire to his last worldly goods she comes across a document in his top drawer, which is an old shares certificate, some company had allocated to her husband years ago. She starts researching on the Internet and discovers the shares are now worth 3,000 Pounds. Via e-mail she registers under her dead husbands name and has the GBP3.000 released into a share dealing account. While drinking a vat of wine, her best friends Chloe, Lil, Steph and Joey try to encourage her to withdraw the money and go to the casino in an attempt to double it, as she has nothing to lose. She decides not to try and withdraw the money and starts watching Bloomberg TV and trawling hundreds of websites looking at very cheap shares, (as in what she can buy a lot of for a little money). She also has to do it without involving a stockbroker person to person, as the shares are obviously not in her name. Mary discovers she can buy shares over the Internet through the stockbrokers without actually speaking to them. She first buys GBP500 worth of shares in a company called Telewest at 1p each. Her thoughts are, with little knowledge they can only go up. The next morning on the BBC early news, she hears Declan Curry the shares man mentioning Telewest and jumps out of the shower. The bank had basically given Telewest more time and money to sort themselves out and the shares trippled the same day. This is truly the beginning of the story. This gives Mary the confidence to buy a further 5 lots of shares at GBP500 in different companies. Some of them double in a week. All her girly friends start bringing their money to her, some with only GBP20 and others with GBP20,000. Some of the women bring their bingo money and do not let on to their husbands that they are not at the bingo and are actually at Mary's house studying the stock market. A fortune is amassed and they all have to concoct a story to get the money out of the bank.
