The purpose of this book is to present a Biblically-based approach to the growing unmarried population, their church leaders and others who love them to finding fulfillment and purpose. Readers will: -Understand that they are not alone with their challenges -Know that wholesome options exist for community and decision making -Be able to positively and with purpose, interact with others Because the book will: -Provide specific and metaphoric examples of successful practical application -Outline various techniques and mechanisms -Encourage unmarried people connect, serve and be served The book is divided into four distinct parts 1.What am I doing here? Singles are searching for their identities, fulfillment and purpose in just about every nook and cranny the world has to offer. There is a better way. 2.Focus on the person, not one's needs. Jesus mends many broken hearts. But, should this be His main function? Jesus can bind up broken hearts until the cows come home, but life is more than triage. Every person, single or not, is to be made (formed, shaped) into the image of Christ (Rom 8:29). Any singles ministry should hold this banner high with every event, sermon, teaching and communication falling under it. 3.Discovering one's self by helping others. Loneliness is a mechanism God uses to woo us unto Himself. We usually attach the feelings of loneliness to the absence of a person or group of people. It's natural to do so. After all, it is when we were with that person or that group where the feeling of loneliness didn't exist. We felt content. 4.Understanding "singleness" as an opportunity. As you connect with others, you will be a recipient of the love of Jesus AND, if you hang around long enough, you will learn how to dish it out, too. "Feed my sheep," He told Peter. In your search, you may first identify with the sheep. Most of us identify with the sheep at some point. We all need to be fed and attended. But as we mature, we begin to see signs of The Shepherd in our actions, feelings and being. This is a sure sign that the fulfillment process is taking root.
