The song features vocals by Bajan singer Rihanna. Written by Eminem, English hip hop producer Alex da Kid and Skylar Grey, the song was produced by Kid and Makeba Riddick, with the latter providing additional vocal production. Eminem and his manager originally reached out to Rihanna when he had heard the track that Kid produced as Eminem felt that only Rihanna could "pull it off." The duo's chemistry was widely praised. Lyrically, the song is about someone whom he loves but the girl does not love him back as Eminem dedicated this song to people who have been through a bad relationship. The song is a mid-tempo hardcore hip hop track, that incorporates aggressive themes, such as those of domestic violence, with instruments consisting of acoustic guitars and piano.
