About the Book

Kaelen Vance, an ex-corporate retrieval specialist, races against time to save his daughter, Elara, from Chronos Syndrome, a condition that ages her ten times faster than usual. With her life hanging by a thread, the Aethelgard Corporation offers Kaelen a chance to save her with a "Genetic Anchor" located on Station Horizon, a research facility orbiting a black hole. The station's extreme time dilation means every hour spent there equals one year on Earth. Aethelgard lost contact with the facility three days ago and needs Kaelen to lead a team to retrieve the asset. He assembles a crew: Rook, a pilot who can navigate deadly gravity shears; Vera, a combat medic needed to keep the biological asset alive; and Nyx, a hacker whose consciousness is partially uploaded to the ship for faster processing. Kaelen calculates he has exactly six hours of mission time before Elara dies of old age without the cure.

The crew breaches Station Horizon and finds it in chaos. The scientists have been brutally killed by something unknown. As they push toward the vault, they uncover Aethelgard's true purpose: using time dilation to accelerate evolution, breeding test subjects, watching them evolve for thousands of years, and harvesting their DNA. When Kaelen reaches the containment unit, he expects a vial of serum but instead finds Subject Zero-a young boy in stasis who is a clone of Kaelen himself. The "cure" is not a drug but the boy's bone marrow. This revelation forces Kaelen into an agonizing choice: kill the boy quickly to distill the serum and escape within their time limit or rescue him at the risk of losing Elara forever.

Kaelen chooses to save Subject Zero, which requires hacking a complex bio-lock and costs them precious hours. As they attempt their escape, they are attacked by Apex-a grotesque creature evolved from the station's Chief of Security-forcing them into a desperate battle. Apex has been developing in isolation for millions of years and possesses superior intelligence and abilities. The crew fights through gravity anomalies as Apex hunts them down. Knowing he must sacrifice himself for any chance to save Elara, Kaelen stays behind to manually detonate the docking clamps so that Rook can launch their ship. He sends Subject Zero back to Earth with his crew, aware that even if he survives, he will never see his daughter again, decades having passed.

The novel ends with Kaelen's mission clock showing six hours as his ship disappears into space with Subject Zero-the only hope for saving Elara-while Apex closes in for one final attack.
