Dort können Internetnutzer bequem von zu Hause aus und unabhängig von Zeit und Raum nach der großen Liebe suchen und dem Singledasein ein Ende bereiten. Man spricht auch häufig vom "Internet als Heiratsmarkt" und bezeichnet den Computer als ein "Beziehungsmedium", da virtuelle Kommunikation Menschen weltweit miteinander verbindet. Im Internet gibt es über 2500 verschiedene Plattformen, die vom Flirten über erotische Abenteuer bis hin zur festen Partnerschaft alles ermöglichen. Die computerunterstützte Partnersuche ist für jedermann zugänglich und weist somit eine weitreichende Auswahl an potenziellen Partnern auf. Online-Dating hat die klassische Kontaktanzeige nach und nach abgelöst und im Laufe der Jahre einen immensen Zulauf erfahren. Was in den 90er Jahren klein anfing, entwickelte sich im Laufe der Jahre zu einem Massenphänomen. Statistiken beweisen, dass alte Klischees wie Online-Dating sei nur etwas für "verzweifelte Singles, die im realen Leben keine Chance haben einen Partner zu finden", hinfällig sind.
