In den letzten zwei Dekaden ist mit dem Mobilfunk eine Dienstleistungsbranche entstanden, die sich durch sehr hohe Fixkostenanteile, eine Penetrationsrate von teilweise über 100Prozent, stetig fallende Preise pro Leistungseinheit und zun- mend geringe Margen auszeichnet. Zugleich sind ein geringer Verbreitungsgrad entwickelter Kostenmanagementansätze und Probleme bei der Abbildung der sehr hohen Fixkosten in den in praxi eingesetzten Systemen des Kostenmanagements zu konstatieren. Für Unternehmen im Mobilfunk sind unter diesen Rahmenbedingungen die Entwicklung und der Einsatz geeigneter Kostenmanagementansätze kritisch für den zukünftigen Erfolg am Markt. Herr Dr. Detscher entwickelt in seiner Dissertatio- schrift ein Konzept eines für den Mobilfunk geeigneten Ansatzes des strategischen Kostenmanagements und bearbeitet damit ein sehr aktuelles Thema, das sowohl für die Wissenschaft als auch für die unternehmerische Praxis von großem Interesse ist. Der Verfasser führt eine empirische Untersuchung zum Status quo des Kost- managements bei Mobilfunkbetreibern durch und weist überzeugend nach, dass das Kostenmanagement im Mobilfunk einseitig auf die Kontrolle der Kosten fokussiert. Die strategische Orientierung des Kostenmanagements ist hingegen häufig nicht ausgereift oder wird negiert. Unter Verwendung einer beeindruckenden Datenbasis einer internationalen Unternehmensberatung aus einem mehrjährigen Benchmark untersucht der Autor die wesentlichen Kostentreiber im Mobilfunk und konzipiert ein eigenständiges Kennzahlensystem für das Kostenmanagement.
