About the Book

DESPERATE TO HAVE A BABY WITH THE SUPER-BOWL QUARTERBACK SHE IDOLIZES, CHLOE BARNES ROBS HIS SPERM BANK. THEN FINDS HERSELF PURSUED AND WOOED BY THE GUY WHOSE "TADPOLES" SHE STOLE. ************** REVIEW: Gordy Hoffman says "The romance between Chloe and Bart is wonderfully endearing... TADPOLES is an exceptionally high concept story with a great premise and some wonderful comedic set-pieces. The standout scene is no doubt the Bank of the Stars `heist, ' as the interaction between Chloe and the guard is pitch-perfect and hilarious. The writer deserves a lot of credit for the fact that the story often gets big laughs without ever going ridiculously far over-the-top. Everything is well-balanced and grounded in reality, and even moments like the Joe DiMaggio exchange (brilliant!) seem organic and coherent. The story also provides an excellent send-up of the advertising industry, and the character of Ridley truly shines in this regard. Again, the humor here is perfectly tuned, and the story's tone is spot-on. The romance between Chloe and Bart is wonderfully endearing... All in all, TADPOLES is filled with wonderful moments of comedy and is clearly the work of a capable writer. The tone and sensibility is fantastic and the authorial voice is definitely unique..." Gordy Hoffman, The Bluecat Competion ********************* *************THE STORY: Chloe Barnes had hoped to have a baby with her live-in boyfriend, but when he says no, she panics. She's 37 and afraid to wait any longer. Her best friend, Jan, a runner pal, tells Chloe it's all for the best. Why settle for "couch potato" genes when you can choose the tadpoles of a donor with "the right stuff". In Los Angeles to produce a TV commercial, Chloe discovers Bank of the Stars, a famous California fertility bank, and takes a tour. While there, she discovers that one of the bank's most famous depositors is her football idol, Bart Steel. Bart had once quarterbacked the Los Angeles Rams to a Superbowl title and even better, has runner genes. Unfortunately, Bart's tadpoles are "unavailable" for purchase. Instead, the bank tries to switch Chloe to scholar/athlete donors. Back at the hotel, Chloe agonizes over her choices and finally decides her future daughter (she hopes) deserves nothing less than Bart Steel bloodlines. But to get them somehow, Chloe must pull off the most daring sperm bank robbery in history. How she does it is nerve wracking and hilarious! And so is the manhunt that follows when the theft is discovered. It seems Chloe has stolen Bart Steel's last chance for fatherhood -- unknown to her, Bart has just become sterile with the mumps and just might lose his girl friend, starlet Fathom Bismark, who badly wanted those tadpoles for herself. After seeing the "cute" police sketch of Chloe, Bart Steel is determined to track down this "evil" woman who is carrying his baby. But will he find her before the police do?
About the Author: About the Author Dick Keith has a farm near Doylestown, PA, where he and his wife raised three sons, but most of his advertising career was in New York where he was the Ayer Creative Director who nurtured, sold, and launched the REACH OUT AND TOUCH SOMEONE ad campaign for AT&T. The client originally preferred KEEP IN TOUCH, AMERICA and only reluctantly agreed to let Dick test the two campaigns against each other. In a mall "intercept" the ladies of Princeton's Quaker Bridge Mall listened to full orchestrations of both jingles with lyrics, then voted 2 to 1 for REACH OUT. The rest is advertising history, so said "The New Yorker." Although the characters in TADPOLES are fictional, their lives are far more exciting than MAD MEN. At last count, none of Don Draper's women had robbed a sperm bank. Maybe this season.
