AN INTRODUCTIONFROM THE AUTHOR A few months ago, on a research trip to New York, I was working late in my hotel room when I heard a knock on the door. Given the hour, I felt a little uneasy but opened it anyway. A young man stood there, the hood of his jacket pulled over his head. In his hand was a small package, wrapped in brown paper. He asked if I was the author Richard T Green. I said I was. He handed me the package, and asked if I would kindly take a look at its contents. Unsure of his intentions, I started to shake my head. He begged me to find a little time to take a look, said it was crucially important to him and his friends. And then he took a furtive glance around to make sure no-one was watching, and pulled back the hood a little, revealing the protrusion on the top of his head. He then said that if I was willing to help them, someone would be at Arnie's Café on Willow Street the next evening to meet me. Before I could say anything further, he was gone. I sat down and opened the parcel. It was a manuscript, but not what I expected to see. It was a diary, a thick one, and its hundred or so pages were filled from the first page to the last with handwritten entries. Intrigued, I began to read. I could not stop. It was three in the morning when I finally noticed the time. The diary had captivated me, a story so incredible it would be impossible to believe, had the young man not shown me the shape on the top of his head. I had to find out more. I went to the café, where I met with a young girl. She too had her head covered with a hood, but this time I knew why. She was pretty; big round eyes shining brightly from the shadow of the hood, locks of long blonde hair framing her face as she spoke in hushed tones. She told me her name was Lala, and it was she who had written the diary. She and her three friends were living secretly in New York, searching for someone and planning to exact retribution on a major corporation for the wrongs they had committed. Having read her diary, I knew exactly what she was talking about. She asked for my help, asked that I write a book from her diary so the world would know the truth. I could not refuse. This book bears my name on the cover, and the names of individuals and businesses have been changed to protect others, but in reality the author is Lala, because everything you are about to read originated from her dramatic words. THE BOOK - In a quiet field in middle England, four teenage aliens live a peaceful solitary life hidden away from the human race. For twelve years they have had no contact from the few humans who know of their existence, but throughout this time the things they needed to survive have been provided for them. But now something is changing, and the four friends are growing uneasy as the security they have enjoyed for most of their short lives is slowly being taken away. Then one night their worst fears are confirmed. After a very unexpected and even more unwelcome visit by two men dressed in black who threaten them with futuristic weapons, it becomes obvious they have been betrayed - and someone knows the secret they have tried so hard to hide. And when two nights later the four friends become three, they know they have to take their destiny into their own hands. They must get out in the big wide world...or die.
