Die Weiterentwicklung moderner Dieselbrennverfahren hinsichtlich Abgasemissionen und der gleichzeitigen Beibehaltung guter Wirkungsgrade erfordert weitere Kenntnisse uber die zugrunde liegenden Prozesse, die im Brennraum ablaufen. Gegenstand der vorliegenden Arbeit ist die Umsetzung ausgewahlter optischer Messtechniken in einem neuen, optisch zuganglichen Heavy Duty Dieselmotor und die Analyse der am Prufstand gewonnenen Ergebnisse vor dem Hintergrund des heutigen Wissenstands. Der Schwerpunkt dabei liegt auf der Russbildung bzw. auf der Russoxidation. In Kapitel 1 wird eine kurze Einleitung in das Thema gegeben. Kapitel 2 befasst sich mit den Grundlagen der Dieselmotorischen Verbrennung, den fur Dieselmotoren relevanten Schadstoffbildungsprozessen und dem Stand der Technik im Bereich Dieselmotoren der Heavy Duty Klasse. In Kapitel 3 wird zuerst der im Rahmen dieser Arbeit entwickelte optisch zugangliche Dieselmotor kurz beschrieben, so wie der Motorprufstand. Danach werden die zum Einsatz kommenden Messtechniken beschrieben, sowie deren Umsetzung im Prufstand. Als erstes wird elastische Lichtstreuung nach der Mie-Theorie erlautert. Auf die laserinduzierten Inkandeszenz (LII) wird eingegangen, da diese ein Bestandteil der RAYLIX-Messtechnik ist. In dieser Arbeit kommt die RAYLIX-Technik, die aus planarer Rayleigh-Streuung, planarer LII und Extinktion besteht, zum ersten Mal im Brennraum eines Dieselmotors zum Einsatz. Die mit dieser Messtechnik gewonnenen Ergebnisse ermoglichen raumlich aufgeloste und quantitative Aussagen uber die Russpartikeln, die wahrend der Verbrennung entstehen. Eine Kombination aus neu entwickelter Hardware und Software wird erlautert, die mittels der Zwei-Farben-Methode eine raumlich und zeitlich aufgeloste Bestimmung von Flammentemperaturen und KL-Werten im Brennraum des Motors ermoglicht. Abschliessend wird eine Technik zur Abbildung von OH-Chemilumineszenz vorgestellt, wobei ein neuer Losungsansatz in Form eines lichtstarken optischen Zugangs zum Einsatz kommt, der verglichen mit haufig verwendeten UV-Endoskopen deutlich verbesserte raumliche und zeitliche Auflosung bietet. Kapitel 4 befasst sich mit der Bewertung der entwickelten Messtechniken und den Ergebnissen, die am Prufstand gemessen wurden. Die Zwei Farben Methode erweist sich als gut geeignet, raumlich und zeitlich aufgeloste Informationen uber den Verbrennungsablauf zu erschliessen, vor allem in der spaten Phase der Verbrennung. Der Betrieb mit einer Makroemulsion aus Dieselkraftstoff, Ethanol und Wasser (E10W10) wurde im Rahmen dieser Arbeit untersucht, insbesondere mithilfe der RAYLIX-Messtechnik. Durch den Einsatz von dieser und anderen optischen Methoden werden Einblicke in die Anderungen der Teilprozesse gegeben, die zu einer drastischen Reduktion der Russemissionen fuhren. Eine Zusammenfassung und ein kurzer Ausblick in Kapitel 5 runden die Arbeit ab.
