This updated third edition is the result of a comprehensive revision to incorporate new general information, advances in analytical and computational techniques, and new reference material. The authors have retained the original objective, which is to provide detailed fundamental derivations with numerical examples in each chapter, so that the text may be used for self-study as well as in the classroom. The availability of computers with increased capacity and speed during the last 10 years prompted inclusion of numerical methods. Other updates and revisions include an updated chapter on approximate methods in radiative transfer, a unified chapter on enclosure theory and black and diffuse-gray surfaces, new material on soot radiation, a new generalized treatment of emitting-absorbing and scattering materials dealing with multidimensional configurations, and new configuration factors. The text is now primarily in SI units.
