About the Book

Titanium dioxide nanomaterials have been showing very promising applications in many fields. Scientists from all over the world have gathered together to discuss the most recent advances in areas spanning from theoretical calculations to fundamental surface science and to materials fabrication, characterization and practical exploitation. More than 160 papers, presentations and posters were accepted in Symposium GG, 'Titanium Dioxide Nanomaterials', at the 2011 MRS Spring Meeting held April 25-29 in San Francisco, California. In this volume are some of the selected papers which cover the synthesis, properties and applications of titanium dioxide nanomaterials.

Table of Contents:
Part I. Calculation: 1. First-principles study of oxygen deficiency in rutile titanium dioxide Hsin-Yi Lee; 2. Synergistic effects on band gap-narrowing in titania by doping from first-principles calculations: density functional theory studies Niall English; Part II. Synthesis: 3. On the sol-gel synthesis and characterization of titanium oxide nanoparticles Jitendra Kumar; 4. Slow aggregation of titania nanocrystals in acidic hydrosols Olga Pavlova-Verevkina; 5. Fabrication of three-dimensionally ordered macro-/mesoporous titania monoliths by a dual-templating approach Lianbin Xu; 6. Growth of TiO2 thin films on Si(001) and SiO2 by reactive high power impulse magnetron sputtering Fridrik Magnus; Part III. Properties: 7. Dynamics of water confined on the surface of titania and cassiterite nanoparticles Nancy Ross; 8. X-ray diffraction investigations of TiO2 thin films and their thermal stability Radomir Kuzel; 9. Morphology and electronic structures of calcium phosphate coated titanium dioxide nanotubes Tsun-Kong Sham; 10. Comparison between the optical and surface properties of TiO2 and Ag/TiO2 thin films prepared by sol-gel process Nelcy Mohallem; 11. Optical and electrical properties of solution processable TiOx thin films for solar cell and sensor applications Mool Gupta; 12. Ellipsometric characterization of thin nanocomposite films with tunable refractive index for biochemical sensors Peter Petrik; 13. Influence of post-annealing temperature on the properties of Ti-doped In2O3 transparent conductive films by DC ratio-frequency sputtering Lei Li; Part IV. Applications: 14. Photocatalytic activity, hydrophilic and optical properties of nanocrystalline titania thin films prepared by sol-gel dip coating Maria Ferrara; 15.
