About the Book

Annotations This book is unique because it contains a literary criticism that was made by Juan AcevedoJim Hawkins is a young man who works with his parents at the Admiral Benbow Inn. One day Billy Bones appears in it, an old drunken and quarrelsome sailor whose only possession is a chest and which alters the life of the peaceful inn. Soon, Billy Bones dies and Jim ends up in possession of a precious map that indicates the situation of the island where the mythical treasure of the fearsome pirate Flint is buried. Thus Jim will initiate an exciting adventure in search of that treasure, which will take him to embark on Hispaniola, face the greatest dangers and leave behind his childhood. The gentleman Trelawney, Dr. Livesey, and the others have instructed me to write down everything about the island of the Treasury, from end to end, leaving nothing else in the inkpot than the position of the island, because there are still riches there that have not been collected. With this evocative phrase begins the Treasure Island, one of the most perfect adventure books ever written and one of the most important and influential in the history of literature. Stevenson does not go around with little girls and from the first chapter he shows us what this book will be like: a fast and nervous style, tight descriptions, moral ambiguity, violence and action. The novel is addictive reading. The reader is swept away by the speed of events, the chapters with an open ending (which allows us to guess that the original publication of the novel was in the Young Folks magazine), the adjusted and environmental descriptions and the strength of the characters . Because the highlight of this novel are the characters. Each and every one characterized with four quick brushstrokes full of mastery that loads complexity. From the first sailor to the last pirate, the characters Stevenson creates are alive and real. The reader feels and lives with them and especially with the protagonist of this wonderful novel, Jim Hawkins. Jim is the narrator, the same one who leaves Bristol full of illusion and innocence and ends up maturing submerged in a spiral of violence. Jim earns a treasure, but leaves behind all trace of a child. Of the rest of the characters stands out above all John Silver "The long," the ambiguous character par excellence and a miraculous literary creation that has become the archetypal image of the pirate. Cook of La Hispaniola, one leg, friendly, charismatic, violent, evil, exquisite and delicate intelligence, with good humor, treacherous and absolutely fascinating.
