About the Book

In 1950, 3 young Army Officers, all with Indian Army experience, decided to drive back overland to the Far East, rather than travel by troop ship. They fitted out an Austin truck with bunks and set off. This account is extracted from a carbon record of the less personal parts of almost daily letters to Iain's bride of 3 months. Not only does the book paint a picture of immediate post war Europe, Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India, but also makes the reader feel a part of the jolly driving crew.
