Entrar al Museo Montané siempre fue para mí una experiencia, aún años después cuando ya podía considerarme parte de la institución y compartía las aspiraciones de sus ocupantes (...) Continuidad con una tradición de estudios del hombre antiguo en Cuba y su entorno geográfico, así podría definirse el espíritu que impregnaba aquel local, sus oficinas y colecciones; y después de tener una relación duradera con el Museo y sus conservadores, se convertía en algo que conectaba con un tiempo y gentes fascinantes, que ni existían ni podían encontrar émulos en el mundo que poblaba la colina universitaria, y poco en los salones de facultad de los que yo procedía (...) Si alguna vez estuve conectado al espíritu de los que nos precedieron, a los fundadores de las ciencias de la prehistoria cubana, a los viajeros y profesores que una vez acudieron a esta institución desde muchos azimuts intelectuales, también lo percibí quizás frente a alguna vitrina, un entierro memorable en la modesta historia insular, en alguna talla insinuante, frente algún descolorido lienzo de algodón sudamericano, o sólo pasando el borde de los dedos de la mano sobre los antiguos gabinetes de caoba que allí estaban desde quién sabe cuándo. El Montané, fueron inolvidables charlas sobre temas de la historia y prehistoria, sobre personajes pasados y presentes, sobre rivalidades y putadas académicas, sobre proyectos posibles o condenados, e inclusive, y un poco contra el espíritu que se labraba en aquella estructura intemporal, sobre las incertidumbres políticas que se abatían sobre Cuba, sobre nosotros. Ya al final, se nos filtraban, también, las aguas muertas. (Dr. Pablo J. Hernández González).Durante años, y antes de entrar en él, el Museo Montané resultaba ser un mundo intelectualmente deslumbrante, después se despertó la ilusión, y finalmente terminó siendo cumbre de cualquiera de mis aspiraciones. Entre sus paredes pude encontrar un refugio de estudio y evasión, que terminó siendo de verdadera amistad. En él, el mundo de siboneyes y taínos alcanzó para mí una dimensión espiritual, más asequible que la de griegos y romanos. Conseguimos, un lugar en el que bien valía la pena refugiarse, y un tiempo, "el tiempo del Montané". Y siempre con las moscas sistémicas tratando de introducir su zumbido venenoso en ese mundo, pero este siempre quedaba más allá. Y todavía hoy sigue estando más allá. A pesar de que no estemos físicamente en el Montané, creamos un refugio del que disponemos, también por lo inalterable que resulta en nuestro afecto. Cada vez que queremos vagamos (vagaremos) por sus salas. Estuve en muchas ocasiones solo dentro del Museo, pero nunca me sentí solo. Los escritos que ahora presentamos hacen vívidos aquellos tiempos; muchos sentimientos y vivencias de golpe. La mesa de Ramón Dacal nadie más la ocupará. Las incursiones relámpago de Rivero de La Calle siguen siendo inesperadas y sorprendentes. El té que preparamos en un "infiernillo de luz brillante", con el que recibimos las visitas y estimulamos la conversación, siempre estará listo. Lo compartimos entre ellos y estos tres buenos amigos, y disfrutamos a la vez que ofrecemos al lector "Un tiempo del Montané". (Dr. Esteban Maciques Sánchez).
