Al recordar los orígenes de este conflicto, nos ha sido inevitable pensar en otros posteriores que sí hemos vivido: la guerra del Vietnam, la guerra de Irak, los bombardeos sobre Serbia... ¿Quien no recuerda la cantinela so- bre las "armas de destrucción masiva"? ¿Quién puede ignorar hoy el "incidente de Tonkín" que jamás existió, pero fue el detonante para la guerra del Vietnam? ¿Vamos a olvidar que los bombardeos sobre Serbia en 1999 se justificaron con inexistentes agresiones a la población de Kosovo, cuando no había más terrorismo que el practicado por el "Ejército de Liberación de Kosovo"?

Todos estos conflictos responden al mismo esquema: intereses geopolíticos, imperialistas o nacionalistas, siempre inconfe- sables, dobles intenciones, palabras que no se corresponden con los actos, condicionamiento de la opinión pública mediante campañas de prensa incansablemente repetidas que tienden a borrar de la memoria colectiva las causas reales del conflicto y la actitud de las partes. Siempre, desde principios del siglo XX, se ha pro- ducido el mismo esquema para desatar un conflicto en el que, finalmente, los vencedores aparecen como palomas inocentes obligadas a combatir a un ente abyecto, cruel y homicida. Luego, como ha ocurrido con la Primera Guerra Mundial, la historiografía termina interpretando el conflicto de manera más objetiva.

Eso es lo que todavía falta para la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Eso es lo que ha hecho en esta obra Udo Walendy.

En las primeras páginas de su obra, el autor enuncia algo que no debemos olvidar jamás: quien hace inevitable una guerra, quien desencadena las fuerzas que ponen en marcha un conflicto, quien puede ser definido como "autor intelectual" de la confrontación, y, por tanto, debe ser tenido también como responsable de todos los excesos cometidos por las partes. Ni la historia, ni la moral, ni la ética, ni el sentido común, pueden admitir que su "victoria" justifique cargar, hasta la caricatura, todas las responsabilidades sobre los derrotados.

De ahí que el establecimiento claro, nítido, sin dudas, ni argumentaciones extraídas de la "propaganda de guerra" o de seriales televisivos, pueda ser admitido a la hora de establecer las verdaderas responsabilidades históricas de los que hicieron imposible la paz en 1939 y abordaron todo lo que estuvo en sus manos para desencadenar un conflicto que costó la vida a 100 millones de personas. Y todo por una cuestión que podía haberse evitado fácilmente y que cambiaría el rumbo de la humanidad.

Esta obra nos sitúa en el kilómetro cero del "revisionismo". Gracias a Udo Walendy podemos realizar un viaje allí donde todo empezó. La riqueza documental de las 800 páginas de esta obra es de tal calibre que abruma por su contundencia y precisión.

Estos dos volúmenes son Historia con mayúsculas. Se podrán silenciar (como se ha hecho) durante años, pero, al igual que ha ocurrido con otros conflictos, antes o después, deberán ser aceptadas por todos aquellos que, abiertos, sin apriorismo ni prejuicios, decidan conocer el rostro y los nombres de los responsables de todo lo que sucedió entre 1939 y 1945. Al término de esta obra podremos decir: "Nada fue cómo nos contó la historiografía oficial".
