Magisterarbeit aus dem Jahr 2002 im Fachbereich Soziologie - Medien, Kunst, Musik, Note: 1,7, Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz (Institut für Soziologie), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Wenn die Massenmedien sich über den Einfluß technischer Innovationen, speziell im Kommunikationsbereich, auf jugendliche Lebenswelten und Verhaltensweisen äußern, wurde bislang gerne das Bild des einsamen Computerfreaks gezeichnet. Seit der massenhaften Verbreitung des Mobiltelefons jedoch betont man lieber das gesteigerte Kommunikationsbedürfnis Jugendlicher. Ihre permanente Kommunikationsbereitschaft ist unübersehbar. Vorangestellt ist ein ausführlicher Theorieteil, der sich in vier Teile gliedert. Zunächst soll Jugend als Lebensphase (1.1.) und soziale Altersgruppe (1.2.). Anschließend werden konsumsoziologische Betrachtungsweisen herangezogen, die zum einen die Rahmenbedingungen einer Konsumgesellschaft (2.) beschreiben, und vor diesem Hintergrund sozialpsychologische Erklärungsansätze des modernen Konsums liefern (2.1.). Da das Handy hier vor allem unter dem Aspekt eines Gebrauchsguts thematisiert wird, wird seine soziale und kulturelle Implikation in Kapitel 2.3. im Mittelpunkt stehen. Dieses Kapitel ist besonders wichtig für die Herleitung empirischer Fragestellungen. Die Kapitel Identitätsarbeit mittels Konsum (3.2.) und Kommunikation (3.3.) bündeln die Ausführungen zu einem sich gegenseitig beeinflussenden Komplex. Ein Überblick über die Identitätsforschung (3.) wird vorangestellt. Bevor Handy und SMS im Spiegel repräsentativer Untersuchungen (4.2.) thematisiert werden, werde ich knapp in den Forschungsbereich der Kommunikationswissenschaft einführen (4.) und insbesondere die medienvermittelte interpersonale Kommunikation fokussieren (4.1.).
