Ziel der Forschung ist herauszufinden, anhand welcher Methoden eine Untersuchung der Zuschauermotivation im American Football Sport durchgeführt werden kann und inwiefern sich Ergebnisse einer solchen Untersuchung in den Forschungskontext einordnen lassen. Mittels einer quantitativen Studie wird eine Untersuchung durchgeführt. Eine quantitative Analyse wird verwendet, um messbare Werte zur Gegenüberstellung zu erhalten. Für die ELF und ihre Vereine ist die Motivforschung ein bedeutender Schritt zur Gestaltung des Stadionerlebnisses, um Menschen zu einem Besuch zu bewegen. In der Etablierung dieser neuen Liga ist das Ansprechen der Menschen von größter Bedeutung. Denn wenn die Motive der Sportzuschauer für einen Stadionbesuch bekannt sind, können die Vereine das Stadionerlebnis und damit das Marketing gegenüber den Zuschauern danach ausrichten und mit den "co-creators" ein Produkt für Sponsoren erschaffen, welche das Bestehen der Liga fördert. Im Verlauf dieser Arbeit wird eine Untersuchung für die Zuschauermotivation von American Football Besuchern durchgeführt. Zu Beginn erfolgt eine Vorstellung des American Football Sports sowie der Geschichte der ELF. Im Anschluss daran wird ein Überblick über wichtige theoretische Begriffe der Motivforschung dargestellt. Außerdem werden verschiedene Studien zusammengetragen, die dieses Thema bereits behandelt haben. Anschließend wird der empirische Teil der Arbeit, in Form einer quantitativen Studie zu Motiven und dem Involvement von Sportzuschauern der ELF durchgeführt.
