G SertDr Gürkan Sert (born on 12 April 1975) graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Law in 1999. He started studying with Professor \efik Görkey in Marmara University Faculty of Medicine's Department of Medical Ethics and History of Medicine, and he btained his master's degree with his thesis on patient rights in 2003. He was admitted as a lecturer in the same department in 2004 and received his doctoral degree with his thesis on privacy in health care service in 2007. Sert has published his first book 'Hasta Hakları - Uluslararası Bildirgeler ve Tıp Etiji Açısından' (Patient Rights From the Perspective of International Documents and Medical Ethics) in 2004, and his next book on privacy and confidentiality of private life in health care service is in press. He has also written a chapter in a book on the ethical review of animal research. He has published articles on the legal liability of the physician, reproductive rights, patients rights and rights of HIV (+) individuals. Sert is a member of Marmara University Faculty of Medicine's Ethics Committee on Research Animals, and he also serves as a member in Marmara University Faculty of Dentistry's Ethics Committee and tstanbul Chamber of Physicians' Ethics Committee. In addition, he has extensive experience as an educator, and has served both as an instructor and a counsellor in several education projects on patient rights and reproductive rights conducted by non-governmental organizations.
