Muhamed Sadiku

Muhamed SadikuMuhamed Sadiku is a born Kosovar-Albanian and a U.S. naturalized citizen. Muhamed completed his elementary, middle and high-school in Kosovo where he became proficient in three languages; his mother tongue Albanian, Serbian and English. He immigratedto the United States in 2006 to reunite with his family. He attended Madison Area Technical College for two years, and in 2010 he transferred to UW-Madison and graduated in 2012 with a bachelor degree in English Language and Literature from the School of Letters and Sciences at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. In addition, Muhamed is a certified TESOL instructor at the said institution. His working experiences include three years of teaching English as a Foreign Language in various private language schools and universities in Kosovo, as well as two years in public schools where he was recognized for his innovative pedagogies in facilitating language learning. He has taught Academic Reading and Vocabulary courses, and presently he is teaching Academic Writing courses in the ESL Department at UW-Madison, where he was given an Honored Instructor Award for his invaluable contributions to student learning. In addition to Second Language Acquisition, and Language Education Policy, as research topics of interest, Muhamed is fascinated by Anzaldua's concept of Mestiza Consciousness and 'fluid identity' as a coping mechanisms for minorities in dominant cultures. Being an immigrant in the United States, Muhamed particularly is interested how the concepts of borderlands, identity and languaging apply to Kosovar- Albanian diaspora. Mainly how first and second generation immigrants navigate the conceptual linguistic and cultural borders they face in the reception countries? How they traverse these spaces and cope with the challenges, and what educators, policy-makers can enact regulation to help them? Muhamed is a father of two, and he loves spending time with his family, reading books, and telling stories while attentively studying the complexities of bilanguaging during family conversations.
