Prasanna Kumar is presently CSIR-Emeritus Scientist at National Institute of Oceanography (CSIR-NIO), Goa, India and Visiting Professor at the University of Hyderabad, India and Maritime University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He was acting director ofCSIR-NIO and Professor at School of Oceanography, Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research, Goa. He has more than 35 years of experience in carrying out multi-disciplinary, national and International projects for studying the Indian Ocean and Arctic Fjords. He has obtained B.Sc in Physics from University of Kerala in 1978, M.Sc and PhD in Physical Oceanography from Cochin University of Science and Technology in 1980 and1987 respectively. While doing his Ph. D, he joined as Scientist at NIO, Goa in 1982. He has received the INSA-Royal Society Fellowship for the year 1995 and Science and Technology Agency Fellowship of Japanese Government in 1997, guided 5 PhDs and has 78 publications in national and international peer reviewed journals.
