Stan BoltonStan Bolton is a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 39 years of clinical experience, including over 31 years in North Carolina Community Mental Health Services. He has now been in private practice for over 7 years. Stan has extensive experienc working with both situational and chronic emotional and behavioral disorders, including bipolar disorder, with and without dual diagnosis of substance abuse. As Director of North Carolina's Catawba County Partial Hospitalization (Day Treatment) Program and Clinical Supervisor over case management services, he worked closely with chronically mentally ill clients and their families to develop plans for achieving stability, managing mental health and substance abuse issues, and supporting clients' follow-through on recommended medication and therapy. As the Program Coordinator of Catawba County's Employee Assistance Program (EAP), Stan provided mental health and substance abuse assessments and counseling to EAP-referred employees, and training to supervisors of EAP companies. Stan became the Clinical Supervisor of the county's Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services, and later the Clinical Program Manager of Adolescent Services. Today, in private practice, Stan continues to counsel adult and adolescent clients and their families who are dealing with bipolar disorder, as well as other chronic and situational mental health and substance abuse disorders. He primarily employs a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach, specifically Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT). He uses other solution-focused and brief therapies as indicated, including training in assertiveness skills, relaxation techniques, and systematic desensitization - techniques that are particularly effective in treating anxiety, panic, and fears that often accompany bipolar disorder. Stan has a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology and has been licensed by the North Carolina Board of Licensed Professional Counselors since 1995. He has been a member of the Licensed Professional Counselor Association of North Carolina since 1996, and the Catawba Valley Association of Counselors and Therapists since 2004.
