Mohini Giri, the Founder President of the War Widow's Association of India, Chairperson of the National Commission for Women, and presently the Chairperson of the Guild of Service, combines a deep sensitivity to the status of marginalisd women with a tremendous capacity to initiate social developmental projects and ensure their effective impact. She has over three decades been working for the empowerment of marginalised women, especially widows. The Guild of Service runs a widows' home "Aamar Bari" in the temple town of Vrindavan where widows are given the dignity of human life. She has through her prolific writing, presentations in seminars at home and abroad been advocating for greater focus of civil society, governments and international organisations on the status of widows and a concerted approach to ensure that they're mainstreamed.
