Dr. Thompson received the Bachelor of Arts degree from LaSalle College in 1967 and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of North Dakota in 1971 and served on the faculties of Georgetown University Medical School and Catholic University of America prior to coming to Duke University in 1975.
