Olea+ Manuel AlonsoProfessor Dr h.c. Manuel Alonso Olea + (born 19 June 1924) studied law at the University of Madrid, Spain (1941-1946), and obtained his Ph.D. in Law (1951- 1953) from the same university. In 1958 he obtained the Faculty of Law Chair of Labour aw at the University of Seville, and in 1965 one of the Chairs of Labour Law of the Faculty of Law at the University of Madrid. Since 1947Letrado, until 1989 he was Letrado Mayor at the Council of State, in charge of the Labour, Education and Social Security Section of the Council. From 1967 to 1981 he was Chief Justice of the Spanish Central Labour Court and from 1975 to 1993 member of the General Electoral Commission. Professor Alonso Olea was an elected member of the Commission of Social Development and the Commissions of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. Several times he was a member of the delegations to the United Nations General Assembly and to the International Labour Organization General Conference. He was acting President and afterwards Honorary President of the Spanish Association of Labour Law and of the Ibero-American Academy of Labour Law and Social Security. He was a numerary of the Royal Academies of Moral and Political Sciences and of Jurisprudence and Legislation.
