Timothy P. MottetDr. Timothy Mottet is a senior consultant with the American Association of State Colleges and Universities. Dr. Mottet served as the president of Colorado State University Pueblo from 2017-2023. He is a dynamic and accomplished leade in higher education, known for his visionary approach and commitment to student success. He served as President of Colorado State University Pueblo from 2017-2023, where he spearheaded a comprehensive transformation that redefined the institution as a vibrant, inclusive, and forward-thinking "people′s university." This revitalization led to national recognition, including being named one of the country′s "up-and-coming Hispanic Serving Institutions" by Forbes magazine.
Tim’s extensive career spans over three decades in higher education with an additional decade in the airline industry. As a senior consultant for the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, Dr. Mottet partners with university presidents and their leadership teams across the country on strategic planning, talent management, leadership development, communication effectiveness, and assessing and cultivating organizational culture. He is particularly skilled in helping leaders navigate complex challenges, build consensus among diverse stakeholders, and foster innovation. Additionally, he serves as Senior Consultant with Academic Search—a higher education executive search firm—where he recruits talent for university clients.
Dr. Mottet is a prolific scholar and author. He has co-authored four books and published more than 60 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. His research explores the intersections of communication, personality, and cognition, with applications in instructional, organizational, and interpersonal contexts. He is a certified trainer for the Franklin Covey group and frequently provides communication, leadership, and organizational training to clients in a wide range of industries.
He holds degrees from William Jewell College (BA), Boston University (MS), and West Virginia University (EdD).
Tim and his spouse, Rick Gonzalez, live in south Texas and enjoy scuba diving, navigating art galleries, helping at animal shelters, and spending quality time in New Orleans.
